Positioning Nepal on the Global Sports Stage
International engagement has been a key pillar of my leadership at the National Sports Council. I’ve worked to ensure that Nepal is not only a participant in global sports but also a respected partner. Through strategic alliances, international tournaments, and high-level dialogues, we’ve taken bold steps to raise Nepal’s profile and create lasting partnerships that benefit our athletes, institutions, and the broader sports ecosystem.
Collaborations with Key Global Figures
Building relationships with international sports leaders has been central to advancing Nepal’s global presence. I had the privilege of working closely with ICC Chairman Greg Barclay and other influential figures in international sports governance. These engagements have opened channels for knowledge exchange, technical collaboration, and Nepal’s deeper involvement in shaping the future of sports at the international level.
Hosting International Tournaments
To establish Nepal as a capable and welcoming host nation, I led the successful organization of events like the Nepal–China U-23 Friendship Matches and several other international competitions. These events have not only promoted diplomatic goodwill but also showcased Nepal’s ability to deliver high-quality sporting experiences. Hosting international matches continues to be a powerful way to inspire local athletes and build public enthusiasm for global competition.
Strategic Partnerships Across Asia
Under my leadership, we forged meaningful collaborations with leading sports institutions and neighboring nations. Key initiatives included:
- Partnerships with the Japan Sports Council and representatives from the Asian Games teams of India, Pakistan, and China to share best practices and coordinate on regional sporting goals.
- Collaboration with Chinese officials to secure a ₹1 crore contribution dedicated to equipping Nepal’s upcoming sports science laboratory. This support plays a critical role in modernizing athlete development and performance research.
These partnerships represent a long-term vision of integrating Nepal into Asia’s broader sports advancement network.
Publications on Nepali Sports Development
Documenting progress is as important as achieving it. I oversaw the creation of comprehensive publications that chronicle the history, transformation, and development of sports in Nepal. These works serve not only as a historical record but also as educational resources for students, policymakers, and researchers. By preserving the legacy of Nepali sports, we’ve built a foundation for future generations to learn from and build upon.
