In my role as Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, I have consistently sought to expand the definition of what sports can mean for Nepal—embracing modern trends, respecting tradition, and prioritizing athlete welfare. These unique contributions go beyond conventional approaches, aiming to make the sports sector more inclusive, diverse, and aligned with global progress.
eSports Integration
Understanding the growing influence of technology and digital culture, I worked to formally recognize eSports as a legitimate and competitive domain within Nepal’s sports ecosystem. By integrating electronic sports into the national agenda, we opened new doors for youth engagement, international competition, and career development. This move has brought tech-savvy athletes into the spotlight and laid the groundwork for Nepal to participate in one of the world’s fastest-growing sports sectors.
Policy Dialogues with Global Sports Leaders
To ensure that Nepal keeps pace with international best practices, I actively facilitated high-level policy dialogues with global sports leaders and institutions. These discussions have helped shape a more forward-looking, globally informed approach to governance, training, and athlete development. Strengthening international relationships has also positioned Nepal as a more active and respected voice in global sports conversations.
Promotion of Traditional and Adventure Sports
I believe that the future of sports in Nepal should celebrate both innovation and heritage. That’s why I initiated policies to promote high-altitude adventure sports and revive traditional games like boating and indigenous competitions. These efforts support tourism, community participation, and cultural preservation while creating new competitive platforms that are uniquely Nepali in spirit.
Establishment of an Athlete Welfare Fund
Athlete welfare must extend beyond the podium. I established a Welfare Fund to provide financial support to athletes facing hardship due to injury, retirement, or personal crisis. This initiative ensures that the people who bring pride to the nation receive care when they need it most. It reflects a compassionate, long-term approach to athlete development—one that values their contributions beyond competition.
